***IN-HOUSE WORKSHOP*** Top Ten Editing Tips and Tools To Make Your Paintings Great!
FULL DAY WORKSHOP
SATURDAY / 10 am - 4 pm
Description:
As artists we find there are times when a painting just doesn’t look quite right and requires some tweaking to obtain a sense of accuracy; it's close but not close enough. The goal of this workshop is to increase our confidence as artists in creating a finiahsed painting we are proud to share. Harvey’s "Top Ten Editing Tips and Tools” can be used to analyze and improve a painting, taking a "lemon" and making "lemonade!" During our one-day workshop, Harvey will demonstrate each of the Top Ten and practiced, using our own paintings to try them out!
About the Artist:
Harvey Walker is returning to Barrie Art Club as an instructor and has been painting for over 30 years. Harvey is a full-time artist who spent his earlier career as a master cabinet designer and craftsman. He took his love of painting in oil to the forefront in 2010. His works have been featured in numerous juried shows, solo and group shows and the Haliburton Studio Tour. He is an avid plein air painter, from roadside to riverside, and thoroughly enjoys sharing his love for painting by teaching at his Boathouse Studio in Carnarvon. Editing and refining his paintings started ‘en plein air” have given Harvey the experience to develop tried and true methods for editing what was started outdoors.

**ONLINE WORKSHOP** Marianne Broome: Abstract Ideas: Unleash Your Creative Ideas with a Limited Palette
TWO - 3 HOUR SESSIONS THURSDAY Workshop / 1 pm - 4 pm
A limited palette is very effective for abstract paintings, promoting colour harmony and allowing the focus to be on the composition itself. The basic colours will depend on the mood and additional hues can be mixed from the basic colours to achieve a balance of values, contrast and unity.
Non-representational abstract painting is an exciting way to create with freedom, according to your own interpretation and feelings, rather than representing actual objects. We will explore ways to use line, shapes, colours, textures and gestural marks to achieve exciting compositions.
Marianne was born in England but spent much of her childhood in Malaysia. The stunning scenery and abundance of exotic animals and plants heightened her love of nature and keen interest in drawing and painting. As a teenager, her artwork was selling in local galleries and department stores. Marianne settled in Canada in 1980 and lives in Schomberg, Ontario. As a full-time artist and a sought-after art instructor Marianne is never without her sketchbook or camera, always looking for new subject matter for her stunning closeup paintings of flowers, ethereal landscapes and abstract images. Marianne also enjoys taking on commissions of subject matter that she may not otherwise paint. Some of these have been commissioned for publishing purposes and her work has been licensed for Giclée reproductions, needlepoint designs, greeting cards and fine porcelain. Marianne’s art education in England has been furthered by studies at The Haliburton School of the Arts and courses and workshops with many respected artists. Marianne’s work has been exhibited in many juried exhibitions in which she has received numerous awards. The most recent are three Best in Show awards, Best Watercolour in Show, The Franklin Carmichael Award, The Marianne Crone Award, 2nd prize in the COAA Juried Show, Juror’s Choice, Honourable Mentions and several People’s Choice awards.
