This workshop, will be taught using the Zoom app.

The class will be working from a black and white reference with a solid value structure in a good composition. From this we will build a colour plan to be expressive of natural colour, but with a push to get a rich and powerful interpretation from our imagination and employing the guidelines on shapes warm and cool colour, values and edges.

The initial steps are to block in with a monochrome using a single colour or colour mix to lay in the composition. That is followed by finding the colours that will express the feeling of that landscape.

Step one is the value made of the composition. Step two will be the development of the dark and mid value colours. Step 3 is the building up of the lighter mid values and the light values and finishing with the highlights.

About the Artist:

If John had the opportunity to go back and start a few things over, he would have been teaching painting much earlier in his life. The sharing of painterly points of view and insights from some of the great representational artists and teachers of the last 100 or so years has become a passion right along side his own work.

Retired from Curry's after 25+ years has made possible many more such opportunities.

John has gallery representation and is a 20+ year instructor at Haliburton School of Art and Design.
