Art Blast! A Barrie Art Club Event

Barrie Art Club is celebrating its 75th Anniversary! To celebrate, we’re hosting our first ever “Art Blast". It will be held on May 23rd at the Barrie Curling Club.

Exciting news! We have had such a great response that we now have 16 competing artists!

Competitors are being notified this week. Check back soon to see which of your favourite artists made the cut and will be competing to be the Victor of Art Blast!

Invite your friends and family to purchase tickets to watch artists paint live to music and lights. Food and beverages are available.

  • There will be two rounds of painting, 20 minutes each, where 16 local artists compete in two groups of eight. 
  • Attendees vote for their favourites. So make sure all your friends are there!
  • Canvases, size 16” x 20”, acrylic paint in primary colours, plus black and white, will be provided. 
  • Participating artists bring their own brushes, special tools, paint and mediums. 
  • Artists may choose any subject to paint in 20 minutes and are welcome to use reference material.
  • All attendees are invited to vote at the end of each round. 
  • The top two artists from each round “paint off” in the final Art Blast competition. 
  • The canvas provided will be 18” x 24” and the time allowed is 30 minutes. That’s 10 extra minutes! 
  • Final voting determines the overall winners and runners up. 
  • All finalists will receive a cash prize (top prize $500 CAD) and will also sell their paintings by silent auction. 
  • Artists get to keep 50% of the auction proceeds with the balance going to BAC.

    Melanie Case

    No stranger to the stage, TV or chatting on a radio station near you. Melanie Case has been in media and marketing for close to 20 years promoting business, emceeing at events and helping local charities raise much needed dollars.

    And For half of those 20 years has owned her own business - Skydive Wasaga Beach.
    Melanie loves arts potential to throw our imaginations into overdrive. 

    Debbie Dwyer

    Originally from “the Rock”, Newfoundland proud, Debbie Dwyer carved out a music career around the island, before landing in Ontario. When she isn’t belting out songs with her unforgettable raspy voice as she plays bass, she’s DJing. Deb will keep you on the floor with a mix of music that offers a non-stop flow of dance energy that keeps the party going.



    We will provide easels, water containers, canvas and palettes. We will provide a selection of acrylic paint (primary colours and black and white) for your use in the Art Blast. If you want to use other media, please bring those with you from home. No spray paint permitted. If you are using oils, no solvents except for odorless  mineral spirits / Gamsol will be permitted. Reference material is allowed, but no cellphones or other electronic devices.

    Please also be sure to bring your brushes and any other non-mechanical tools you want to use. Canvas will be 16” x 20” and the last round will be 18" x 24".

    1. The event features two 20-minute rounds of public painting and a final one (30 minutes). The audience votes after each round.

    2. Six (6) painters will compete in Round 1, the other six (6) in Round 2.

    3. The top two painters from each round will be in the final 30-minute competition.

    4. In the final round the audience will vote again.

    5. All work is auctioned to the highest bidder (silent auction) with the artist receiving 50% of the final bid.

    6. Smoke free facility, alcohol is permitted in the upper floor only, and sold by the Barrie Curling Club.
