Have you ever wanted to try your hand at painting objects on canvas? There are many styles and ways of accomplishing 'Still Life'; Sharon Black's favourite is realism using oil paint.


In this workshop, Sharon will guide you on a journey to 'Paint What You See'. You will begin by drawing one, two or three simple objects of your own choosing. Keep it simple (do not bring a metal object that reflects objects and surrounding colour, or a transparent glass object).

Sharon has prepped the canvas surface for you to save time. You will then block in the basic shapes with acrylic paint so it dries quickly. At this point, you can continue painting in acrylic or change to oil.

Next, Sharon will demonstrate how to create the contoured shape of the object by using shading and highlights. She will also show you how to create a centre of interest using colour to bring an area forward in your painting.

About the Artist

Sharon Black has travelled and taught painting classes all over Canada and the United States for the past 30 years. Her aim is to help you find your inner artist and the ability to paint what you see before you.
