About the Artist

Diana Bullock is a visual artist working in acrylics, mixed media, watercolours and Sumi-e [Japanese ink painting].

A lifelong passion for the creative arts led to classes in various different mediums.
Diana’s background includes workshops in watercolours, acrylics and mixed media with many prominent Canadian and American artists as well as classes at the Haliburton School of Fine Art. The beauty, simplicity and Zen quality of Sumi-e (Japanese Brush Painting) led her to study the Nagna style of Sumi-e at the Japanese Cultural Centre. In 1999 she submitted a painting and earned her Seal. Diana continues to study eastern art in workshops with Sumi-e artists, including artists from China and Japan. Diana’s work reflects the influence of eastern and western styles of painting. There are traditional Sumi-e and traditional watercolours and acrylics with some paintings and a mixture of both.

She shares her joy of art and painting by conducting workshops with several different groups. Diana developed and delivers an Art for Communication programme for adults living with Aphasia, a communication disorder that sometimes occurs after stroke or head injury. This programme helps people develop their ‘visual language’ as an alternate way to communicate.

Her work has received awards and has been part of several international exhibitions.
