Class Description
Using a reference photo provided by the instructor, we will take a look at composition, big shapes and light source before we begin. Your painting will develop as we do a minimal drawing of big shapes and shadows. You will have a beautiful and harmonious painting at the close of the session and the skills and techniques to freely express your own creativity.
About the Artist
Lisa has been a club member for 8 years, painting mainly in watercolour, acrylic and oil. She is passionate about new experiences, experimentation, and an evolving personal expression! Lisa has taught workshops for both kids and adults and is a big proponent of sharing her learning. She has had gallery representation and an active online presence.

Supplies Students Should Bring:

Paint / art media
Oil Paints-CAD yellow light, Hansa or Lemon Yellow, Phthalo Blue, Cobalt Blue, French Ultramarine Blue, Any Quinacridone Red, Rose or Violet or Permanent Rose, Burnt Sienna, Burnt or Raw Umber, Soft Mixing White if you have it (optional) plus Titanium White.

Same colour palette for acrylics.
Art Surface / Support
Rectangular canvas, panel or board. Demo will be 11x14 but 9x12 or 8x10 is fine too.
We will use BAC’s table easels unless you prefer your own
Supplies and Tools
Any palette you prefer- 9x12 palette paper is convenient for workshop use
Natural bristle oil brushes or synthetic for acrylics, FLATS in a range of sizes from 6,8,10,12
ROUNDS, small size 2 or 4
Diamond or Spade shaped palette knife, 1
1 Liner brush (optional)
Rags, shop or paper towel
Small container of oil such as walnut or linseed
Pure odourless mineral spirits such as Gamsol
Liquin Light Gel (optional)
For acrylics painters- 2 small water containers and a gloss or satin medium such as Golden or Liquitex to extend your paints
Reference materials
Instructor will provide a reference photo for all participants

Set up, look at composition, big shapes, light and shadows,
Tone or ground substrate
Loosely shade in big shapes, dark shadows, dots for reference points
Build layers of thin paints, dark to light
Move to thicker, lighter paint
Background, soft and hard edges
Final details, highlights
