Class Description
Learn how to sketch and paint our iconic Georgian Bay windswept pine tree. Your sketches will be suitable for framing on their own or as holiday cards. From one of the sketches you will create a painting of the windswept pine.
About the Artist
Cathy Boyd is a passionate, dedicated and prolific oil painter based in Midland, where she owns and operates the Cathy Boyd Fine Art Gallery right on Midland’s main street. Her gallery also serves as her studio, and visitors are welcome to stop by and see her at work from Tuesday to Saturday year-round. Cathy is a member of the Ontario Society of Artists and an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists. Her work is showcased in several prestigious galleries across Ontario.

Known for her landscape paintings, Cathy draws inspiration from her love of nature, particularly the beauty of Georgian Bay. She takes great joy in painting outdoors whenever possible, capturing the essence and energy of her surroundings firsthand.

Supplies Students Should Bring:

Paint / art media
Sketching/drawing materials; using anything and everything you can think of to use while drawing: pens, pencils, acrylic markers, india ink. pencil crayons, etc.

Oil or acrylic media: All the usual materials you would use to normally paint with.

Specific colours not required in oil or acrylic, but will be based on what you have already.

Week 1: Sketchbook, any kind of paper, specialty paper, etc.
Blank art cards

Week 2:
A canvas of average size, ie: 16 x 20, a bit larger or smaller. Rectangular is better than square format
Supplies and Tools
Easel, cleaning materials
A variety of brush sizes

Workshop Outline: Complete: All-4 Class Series, 1 only-Single Session, 1 & 2 - Saturday OR Full Day

Session 1
The first class involves drawing multiple sketches that will be suitable for framing, and for creating holiday greeting cards.
Session 2
In week two, you will choose one of the sketches from the previous week which will be the basis for a painting of the windswept pine.
