Class Description
Learn the fundamentals of painting with watercolour. Emphasis will be on techniques required to create a simple painting - wet in wet, dry brush and water control. Through experimentation students will have the opportunity to develop their creativity and individual style.
About the Artist
Pat Hillcoat has been painting and teaching for many years. She has expertise painting with watercolour, acrylic and alcohol inks. Often you will see her outside painting in plein air. Pat loves to help students to develop their style and increase confidence in their abilities.

Supplies Students Should Bring:

Paint / art media
Watercolour paints, Cadmium Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red light, Cerulean Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Dioxide Purple, Burnt Sienna, Sepia, Sap Green
*(at minimum - primary colours - red, blue, yellow).
Art Surface / Support
Watercolour paper - Cold Pressed (Fabriano or Arches recommended, but not required).
Supplies and Tools
Brushes (flat - 1 inch, 1/2 inch, round #6 and 10) paper towels, container for water, palette, (masking fluid if you have it), pencil and eraser

Workshop Outline: Complete: All-4 Class Series, 1 only-Single Session, 1 & 2 - Saturday OR Full Day

Session 1
Introduction to Watercolours. Discussion of watercolour paints, watercolour paper qualities, brushes and recommendations. Students will learn wet in wet and dry brush techniques (gradients and blending). Students will learn how to effectively create a watercolour wash. Emphasis will be on how to load and hold your brush for maximum control.
Session 2
Abstract painting - Applying the introductory techniques and water control learned in lesson 1, students will learn how to create a simple abstract painting. (simple wash, gradation and dry brush techniques will be emphasized).
Session 3
Landscape Painting - Students will learn how to use gradation and blending of colours (wet in wet technique) to create a simple landscape painting. Dry brush techniques will be used to add interest.
Session 4
Flowers - Students will create a flower painting using wet in wet techniques, blending and dry brush techniques.
