Class Description
Through exploring this fascinating medium students will discover the unique properties and qualities of this, in essence, dry paint (soft pastel).

During the class sessions we will complete two pieces of art: 1) a painting depicting warm dominating colours, and 2) a painting depicting cool colours.
About the Artist
Born in Barrie in 1958, Richard has been painting and drawing since he was ten years old, developing his abilities on a self-taught basis until enrolling in the Fine Arts Department at the Ontario College of Arts four year program.

Since graduating in 1990, Richard has since opened and operated a small business in Orillia, Ontario.

Richard is the recipient of numerous scholarships and awards throughout his career including:

- 1988 John Alfsen Award for Proficiency in Fine Art
- 1989 Dorothy Steven's Award for Proficiency in Painting and Drawing
- 1991 Best in Show, Watercolour and Pastel, Kempenfest, Barrie
- 1992 Best Traditional Painting, Midland Arts Festival

Richard's work was chosen to be in a movie 'Where the Heart is', filmed in Toronto, and commanded the highest price in a charity silent auction held at the Ontario College of Art in 1989.

Supplies Students Should Bring:

Paint / art media
Soft Pastels - Minimum of 90 artist quality pastels if possible
*Reason being: Better Pastels = Better Quality

- Workable fixative
Art Surface / Support
- 9"x12" canson pad / mi teintes pastel paper - grey tones if possible (or tan if not available)

- Safety razor
- Kneaded eraser
- Charcoal pencil (medium hardness)
- Exacto knife
- Newspaper (acts as cushion for mi teintes paper)
- Apron
