Class Description
We all understand bits of colour theory, but do you have enough to make it useful to you in your daily painting? This three day workshop will focus on colour theory, simple palettes and colour mixing, so you can learn how to solve your colour problems before they happen.
About the Artist
Brian Smith graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto in 1969. Since then he has been a professional, award-winning graphic designer and a practicing fine artist focusing on both classical and abstract drawing and painting from the figure. In January 2005, Brian was awarded the title of Honourary Drawing Master by the Drawing Society of Canada.

Brian has taught classes and workshops on life drawing, portraiture and figurative abstraction for over 30 years and has been on the faculty of many colleges as well as conducting Master Classes in his own studio.

Supplies Students Should Bring:

Paint / art media
Acrylic or oil or Water Soluable Oil paints, in a variety of your favourite colours including the following:
- Payne's Grey
- Cadmium Red Light
- Yellow Ochre
- Titanium White
- Plus a tube of Acrylic #5 Neutral Grey (Golden) (**NOTE: YOU WILL NEED THIS TUBE even if you are working in oils.**)
Art Surface / Support
- 1 pad 16”x20” Canvas Pad (Fredrix or Richeson or AboveGround Canvas Pad or equivalent
(Note: Please do not bring “Canvas Paper Pad”)
- Medium sized sketchbook approx. 10"x14" (Don't buy a new one - just bring your usual sketchbook)
Supplies and Tools
- Palette or disposable palettes
- Variety of brushes
- Floor easel
- Drawing board (large enough to hold 16”x20” canvas pad sheet)
- 1” masking tape
- Rags
- Paper towels
- Usual painting paraphernalia

Materials Instructor Will Bring:

- Brian will bring copies of his 2 books and his 2 DVDs for sale
